About us

DIBINEM is an inclusive academic environment in which to cultivate and develop critical thinking, with a focus on Research, innovation and the wellbeing of the Community.

In an era marked by the rapid evolution of technology and knowledge, our main challenge is to enhance our multidisciplinary and translational approach, open to international collaboration and to the community, while keeping our identity strong and alive.

The Department carries out integrated research lines whose ultimate goal is the protection of citizens’ health.

DIBINEM is committed to responding to the growing demand for excellent, modern medicine. Its development is integrated and closely connected with the biomedical teaching activities and the clinical-care activities of the IRCCS Sant’Orsola Polyclinic, Bologna University Hospital, the IRCCS IOR and ISNB, and the healthcare system in Romagna.

DIBINEM therefore promotes the integration of knowledge advancement with excellence in preclinical and clinical research, within a “One Health” perspective and with a translational vocation. Its aim is to transfer discoveries from basic disciplines into clinical practice, following a “bedside-to-bench-to-bedside” approach.

Since its establishment, the Department has enhanced the potential of the biomedical, medical and healthcare fields within its areas of expertise, strengthening teaching and clinical-care functions while also giving due attention to social impact.

Our history

DIBINEM was established as the evolution and differentiation of the first example of an integrated structure combining a biomedical discipline, Human Anatomy, and a clinical-surgical discipline, Orthopaedics. For this reason, its vocation is inherently translational.
